The 2008 Grand Assault of Arms

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008, 1:00 - 4:00 pm

The Grand Assault of Arms is the ultimate test of martial skill among classical fencers.

The grand assault proper developed in the late 1860’s and early 1870’s in tune with the economic and historical forces that gave birth to France’s gilded age, La Belle Epoque. According to Robert Milton, the sports column writer for the French newspaper Le Figaro, this was “a time when everything is made grand – Grand Review or Grand Minister. It is thus that we announce the Grand Assault.”

Come view the finals for each weapon category on Sunday, November 23rd, 2008.

The finals will include:

  • Foil
  • Dueling Sabre
  • Dueling Sword (épée)
  • Single Stick

Experience the opening ceremony with the elaborate Grand Salute of Arms. The event will also feature an overview of the schools of fencing and the wide range of systems that existed in the 19th century at the height of the classical fencing era.

There will be demonstrations of Classical and Historical fencing, including Smallsword, Spanish Rapier, Italian Rapier, and more.

Tickets can be purchased online, or at the door. Tickets will be available online until midnight on Saturday, November 22nd.
