The 2008 Grand Assault of Arms: Open Classical Fencing Tournament November 22 & 23, 2008 We are pleased to announce our annual Grand Assault of Arms. The grand assault proper developed in the late 1860's and early 1870's in tune with the economic and historical forces that gave birth to France's gilded age, La Belle Epoque. According to Robert Milton, the sports column writer for the French newspaper Le Figaro, this was "a time when everything is made grand - Grand Review or Grand Minister. It is thus that we announce the Grand Assault." We held our first annual Grand Assault of Arms in New York in July of 2003. Each year the scope of this event will increase until it has all the glamour of the galas of old. The tournament is structured so that all preliminary assaults will be fenced on Saturday, November 22nd and the final assaults to determine the winners per each weapon category will take place on Sunday, November 23rd. Fencers may participate in any or all weapons categories. This tournament is only for fencers 18 years of age and older. The tournament will include:

Schedule Preliminary assaults will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at: Community Educational and Recreational Center Final assaults will be held on Sunday, November 23rd from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at: Regis High School Fees Tournament Fee is $20.00 for AHF members and $25.00 for non-members. Registration by mail must be postmarked by November 12th. Only family and friends of the participants will be admitted for the preliminary assaults on Saturday, November 22nd. General public admission to the event will be at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 23rd. Admission Fee: $10.00. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. Spectators may purchase tickets online. Tickets can be purchased at the door on Sunday starting at 12:40 pm. Registration Please use our registration form. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR THE TOURNAMENT. No exceptions. The cut-off date for pre-registration for the tournament is November 12th 2008. Cancellations must be received by November 6th, 2008, in order to receive a refund. No refunds will be made after November 6th, unless the tournament is cancelled due to inclement weather. No videotaping or flash photography of the event will be permitted. Directions to The Community Educational and Recreational Center (CERC) From New York City by public transportation; take the Path train to Pavonia & Newport. The center is three blocks from the station. From New York City by car; take the Holland tunnel once you come out of the tunnel bear all the way to the left. Make the first turn to the left on to Marvin Blvd. Continue straight, through the first intersection and under the overpass. The center will be on your right. From the New Jersey Turnpike follow the signs for the Holland tunnel. Turn right on to Marvin Blvd. It is the last exit just before the Holland tunnel tollbooths. Parking is available in front of the building.
