AHF Judges Clinic

On March 7th and 8th, 2009 we will be holding an AHF Judges Clinic designed to train judges for AHF fencing tournaments. Maestro Martinez and Maestro Jeannette Acosta-Martinez will provide two days of instruction and training in the proper methods and procedures for judging and directing at classical and historical fencing tournaments utilizing the AHF rules.

The workshop will cover protocols for judges and directors. The AHF rules for each weapons category will be covered in minute detail; including safety requirements for all weapons and equipment, what constitutes a valid hit in all weapons, rules of priority for the conventional weapons (foil and sabre), etc. It is the responsibility of the participants to be familiar with the tournament rules.

From the Fencing Officials Commission (FOC), who is qualified to participate: 1. Must be a Classical and/or a Historical fencer and a member of the AHF. 2. Must be able to officiate with authority (strong and decisive) 3. Must demonstrate impartiality 4. Competence and Knowledge of Fencing

Requirements for becoming a Judge: must be at least 16 years of age, must attend AHF workshop(s) prior to testing, must pass written and practical exams administered by FOC.

Participants completing this seminar and passing the written and practical test will be eligible to officiate at future AHF tournaments. Cost of the workshop is $50 for Students with valid ID's and $60.00 for everyone else. Please register early to reserve your space.

Please print and send in the registration form [PDF]. Once we receive your registration form we will send you a copy of the Judges workbook (created by the FOC) so that you may study it before the workshop begins.
