Redwood Coast Assault of Arms, 2009

The Humboldt State University Fencing Club in partnership with the AHF is pleased to announce the second annual Redwood Coast Assault of Arms in Arcata, California. This Open tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 18th and 19th at Humboldt State University’s Lumberjack Arena.

Arcata is situated in beautiful Northern California, noted for its sequoia redwood groves and beautiful coastline. The Redwood Coast Assault of Arms is the second tournament to be organized and funded entirely by the HSU Fencing Club. This year, the tournament will consist of a classical foil section and a historical (rapier/small sword) section.

Schedule

Saturday, April 18th

8:30 am – 9:30 am: Registration, warm up, and equipment inspection
9:30 am – 1:00 pm: Foil section
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Break for lunch
2:00 pm – on: Rapier/Small sword section

Snacks such as fruit, chips, water, etc are provided for participants both days free of cost, and there are many lunch options close to campus. A participant’s dinner is scheduled for 7:00pm at a local restaurant.

Sunday, April 19th

12:00 – 12:30: Doors open for participants for check in and warm up.
12:30 pm: Doors open for the public, view of weapons display, HSU Fencing Club history display, and seating.
1:00 pm: Tournament finals, foil section followed immediately by the rapier/small sword section. Awarding of prizes

Registration

To pre-register, please use our [PDF] registration form and mail to Humboldt State Fencing Club c/o Benjamin Bowles, 2665#A Foster Ave, Arcata CA, 95521.

Registration is $20.00 for either the foil or rapier/small sword section alone, or a combined fee of $35.00 for entry into both.

Pre-registration is encouraged.

Spectators on Sunday: $5.00 admission

No videotaping or flash photography will be permitted during the tournament.

Location

Lumberjack Arena, Kinesiology and Recreation Administration Building (KA), Humboldt State University, Arcata California, 95521.

The town of Arcata can be reached via highways 101 or 299. See google maps for 101 Southbound, 101 Northbound and from the 299 Westbound. On Saturday and Sunday, metered parking on Union will be free. An event coordinator will direct you to additional parking. The Kinesiology and Recreation Administration Building is at the top of Union Street on your right. If entering from the first level, the gym is on the second floor, through the glass doors at the top of the stairs. Elevators are located on the first floor on your right, behind the pool. There will be representatives of the Fencing Club directing traffic and spectators outside and inside the building.

Transportation

The closest airport is the Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV), located in McKinleyville, only seven miles from Humboldt State University. Directions from the airport to the Lumberjack Arena can be found here.

Taxi service is available to and from the airport.
