From the Editor

Dear Readers,

This newsletter is sort of a milestone for Estafilade. We're finally in hard copy! I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone whose talent and hard work helped make this possible, particularly Kim Moser, Michael Su, and Jana Umbs. I'd like to see this newsletter grow into something really extraordinary.

Our third issue brings some interesting content. Besides the membership meeting minutes, we have a report on the July smallsword event by that steadfast contributor, W. Kevin Dougherty. Also, we have a review of the helmet exhibition at the Met and a reprint of an article on fencing in New York in the 1880s.

I am pleased to say that we will be selling advertising space in this newsletter. Rates have yet to be set, but they will be quite reasonable. If anyone has a fencing-related business or service that they would like to advertise, please contact me via e-mail or snail mail.

Of course, I can't leave my bully pulpit without haranguing the membership. With my remaining inch and a half of column space, I'd like to remind you that I can't write this newsletter by myself. We need content! Most importantly, we need pictures of AHF events and well-researched, well-documented, and well-written academic papers.

Yours,
Ken Mondschein
